Black Tusk Percussion: Land, Legend, and Local Craft
Two Brothers. Two Hubs. One Mission.
Black Tusk Percussion was born from the rugged landscapes of British Columbia and a shared drive between two brothers to create something permanent in a world of mass-produced, disposable gear.
We don't believe your drum kit should be outfitted with plastic parts from a factory floor. We believe every strike should have a story.
The Interior & The Island
Our process is a journey across BC.
The Fabrication Hub: Deep in the interior, the Co-Founder and Director of Design —a master woodworker—selects the raw timber. Whether it’s locally sourced BC Maple or hand-selected exotic hardwoods, he turns, shapes, and bores each piece with a brilliant eye for grain and structural integrity.
The Finishing Hub: The pieces then travel to the Island. As a drummer, the other Co-Founder and Director of Operations handles the final stage. Here, just a few hundred feet from where prehistoric mammoth remains were famously discovered, he finishes each piece by hand, etches our mark, and performs the final Quality Control.
Why "Black Tusk"?
Our name comes from the iconic obsidian peak that towers over the Garibaldi Provincial Park—a symbol of BC’s raw, "prehistoric strength." Our logo, the mammoth, honors the ancient giants that once walked the very ground where our Victoria hub stands today.
The Black Tusk Difference
We don't just sell beaters and accessories; we provide "Prehistoric Strength. Modern Precision." * Handmade & One-of-a-Kind: No two grains are identical. Your beater is yours alone.
A Palette of Sound: By using various densities—from the punch of hard Maple to the warm, dark resonance of Walnut—we offer a range of acoustic "colors" that felt and plastic simply cannot replicate.
Authentically BC: We use local materials wherever possible, ensuring that every time you sit behind your kit, you’re playing a piece of the Pacific Northwest.
